Vilnius University is one of the oldest Universities in Eastern Europe
- as it was founded in 1579, this year it celebrates 430 years anniversary.
However, the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University opened it's doors
some 200 years later , in 1781. In the beginning of 19th century
the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University became one of the main
institutions for studying and practicing medicine.
Also, it was a cradle of biomedical sciences and lots of outstanding
European scienticists of these times like Georg Forster, Ludwig Heinrich Bojanus,
Andrzej Śniadecki and others created their scientific works in our Faculty.
The Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University keeps it's importance nowadays.
About 1300 students, more than 600 residents and about 80 PhD students are studying
and practicing biomedical sciences in it's auditoriums, hospitals, institutes and laboratories.
